Review of Farmyard Restaurant in Norwich

By Caroline Ellis

Caroline gives a short review of dinner at Farmyard in Norwich.

When a friend asked, ‘where can we go to catch up one evening after work’, there was no doubt in my head ‘Let’s go to the Farmyard!’. I have been hearing good things about The Farmyard and it seems to be the go-to restaurant for Norwich and the southern half of Norfolk with its clean, sharply defined, seasonal flavours. They source their ingredients locally for not just for the sake of it but for the best quality whilst reducing food miles at the same time. Dann’s Farm bring them fresh cream for their butter, Eves Hill Veg Co hand pick salads, herbs and vegetables and H V Graves produce the tastiest beef I have ever tasted (my friend kindly let me try!).

To start I had the Loch Duart salmon, wasabi and lime leaf emulsion, pickled cucumber, radishes. This dish was so delicate and light, amazing flavours from the wasabi and lime leaf emulsion.

Deciding our mains took us a while as we both had three or four dishes we wanted to try. The waitress was so attentive and explained the dishes and that it is customary to choose a main then choose a side dish. After much deliberation, I decided on the Crispy pork belly, baby turnips, pickled leeks, confit beetroot and chorizo puree.

When it arrived, the arrangement on the plate looked so good I felt bad moving things around. But that thought didn’t last long as I cut into the pork belly which was the perfect combination of crispy and salty. The Fresh green beans, chorizo, confit onion on the side provided the perfect balance and were equally as delicious.

For dessert we shared the famous Farmyard chocolate bar: Colombian 65%, miso caramel, peanuts, milk sorbet. A-MAZING! Would highly recommend visiting them for just dessert only.

Farmyard is now one of my favourite places to dine in Norwich. With their modern décor and local produce, it was the perfect spot for a gossip and chat with friends. Overall, it was a lovely evening catching up with a friend and tasting some of Norwich’s finest dishes.

You could be dining at Farmyard too, if you’re a new owner that signs up with Norfolk Holiday before the end of 31st October 2019.
